Your essay stands on its own-- and rightfully so, as you passed through the gauntlet and made it! Gritty, fierce, careworn and honest it refutes the tripe that glossy parenting mags espouse and in my case, provided reassurance and reinforcement that I wasn't doing half bad with my 8 month old.

Mad props.

On one of the many sleepless/fuss-filled nights with our little guy, my usually supportive husband said to me 'what did you expect?'. I naively expected bliss not the helplessness, isolation and anxiety I really felt over our son's fussiness and seemingly endless nursing sessions. The infant stage is a test in survival. I am so glad to have moved through it and gotten to the other side.

Thank you, Christine. It's a myth that the newborn days are pure-bliss. They are full of wonder and awe, but that's not the whole story. When we can say that out loud and hear others agree, the door opens for understanding and healing. Thank you for reading and writing!

Every new mom --- every mom, period --- should read this essay, and this blog. Wonderful writing, Whitney, and spot-on message. ~ChrEliz (Christine Gresser)
